Rehabilitation

My journey has had many crooks and turns. God knows how to make the crooked places straight. Thank God the crooks are gone!

Once upon a time I was a wife and a real estate mogul. Neither have ever changed. Shrugs… Divorced yet still a wife. REM… just refashioned, repurposed and rehabilitated. …Landlord, property owner, AirBNB, storage, short and long term rentals, etc.

The Creel Thing

Today I will talk about the house on Creel. I was gonna sell it. Housing market up… take my money and reroute it. I get constant communications from the “we buy houses” (low ball) people🙄… had a few people interested but molasses flows faster. The only movement came from the calendar. Because the first of the month has been faithful! 😂

Well one fate filled Saturday, I went back in this house myself with a friend and potential buyer. Hadn’t been inside for about 5 years. I walked through a few times… tried to make sense of the space… where was the 3rd bedroom? What is the meaning of this ginormous kitchen? 🤷🏽‍♀️

Then something clicked! (Perhaps it was when I discovered the power and lights are still on!🙌🏽) Make the 3rd bedroom in the kitchen and the room with 2 closets: close one off and flip flop that space to the other room. Lord who will do it? I know who I wanted to do it. But he is often busy.

I consulted someone else. His advice was to rent it as a 2 BR and forget the difference. I held my kind face and had that “oh ok” strong in me. I had already texted young fellow. The rest was in God’s hands… I knew what I wanted could be done, was feasible and the cost just needed to be right. I told one girl that if time passed and I learned how to build a waallllll: IT IS OVER!!! So whaddaya do?…

Keep It Moving

I busied myself with what I could do! I cleaned house first. Yuck 🤮… but gloves, Clorox and a mop are mandatory equipment and makes life easier!

The living room had old tiles that Mr. 2BRs help me get up! Let me pause here and say that was no small feat! He came to let me borrow the tools and got to work on the Labor Day Holiday. He made it clear he doesn’t work on the holiday. That help was big! We got that floor up in 30 minutes whereas my pry bar and hammer would have taken a minimum of 4 hours. 🗣🎙 ”I know the Lord WILL make a way! Yes He will”.

Marathon Week

Well 8 day’s really…Here is a break down of the week. Mind you Tuesday, I began a workout accountability with a friend and Sunday (9/11) my daughter turned 21!!! So yeah, unless otherwise noted, after work you could find me at this house.

Saturday: Survey the Property… (bought a FBMKT $50 fridge for my garage at 10 pm😜) end of the day loaded my car with cleaning supplies for tomorrow

Sunday: Went to Church, Cleaned a little and dinner with BF

Monday: Remove Floor adhesive tiles and continue cleaning

Tuesday: Officiate Volleyball Game Wednesday: Prime LR wall

Thursday: Painted LR Wall

Friday: Purchased & installed 2/3 flooring got home 3 am

Saturday: I could not (but had 5 other things on my calendar… 10:30 - 5:30), went home and slept!!!!

Sunday: cut grass at my house, birthday brunch with Morgan, finished the LR floor and young man and his girlfriend built the wall!! YESSSS!!!

It’s FB Market For Me

I bought the vinyl flooring from a lady on Facebook Market. I needed 187 sqft. I got the flooring and under layment for a whopping $75. Cue Lil Jon “Yeah”!!!! The lady had 750 sqft of flooring & gave me the estimated amount I needed. I told her that the remaining amount, the 2nd purchaser could have! I’m keeping a few extras for possible repairs.

It was a great week! Thank God for the power, strength and will to do!

Takeaway

During this process a friend of mine texted: “… BTW, the same Faith you use to save money, God will give you to pay for some of this work!!!“

I have both the faith and the money. Both provided for this time. To be able to work as I do and to be able to bless young man and his girlfriend (and whomever comes along) are a (camera zoom moment) blessing! None of it is anything I want to take for granted.

But this process, like all, has required me to get engaged, make decisions and stick to them while being flexible and open to suggestions. It’s a balance of learning to walk in the spirit and not after the flesh. And THAT dear people is spiritual Rehabilitation!
